How To Make A Music Video
If you have any problems that isn't explained on this page E-Mail Nappa
-QuickTime-
There is 2 ways of making a QT Clip.
1.First open up a clip, then click on file and new player, take the player with the clip you have and move the little triangle things (there is 2) under the play bar to set the area you want to use. after setting it, go to EDIT/COPY, now click on the empty player, go to Edit/Paste and do that with a bunch of clips. click on Edit/Delete tracks & click on Sound and delete it, you should now have a silent clip, usually there will be lots of sound tracks, one from each movie clip you have inserted, delete them all. Now to get music into in. I suggest you use WAV files instead of mp3, because when you compress a music video with an mp3 it will skip sometimes, and QT doesn't open MP3's anyway. Open up a new player, go to open movie under file and open a music file up. set the triangle things again for what part of the song you want to use, now go to Edit and click copy, now click on the player you want to add the song to, set the black ball at the beginning of the video, hold down ALT+CTRL and click on Edit and hold the mouse botton down, you will see add, highlight add and let got of the mouse button, now you have music in your video.
2. Do the same, but put the Music in first, then add the clips in as you go, this way you can check it and see how much time you have left. Don't forget to hold down ALT + CTRL when going into the EDIT bit, otherwise Add will not be there, only Paste. **This is how we make ours, as we find it the easiest way**
-AVI Compressing-
Now that your done making the video in QT, you can compress it into an AVI file to be able to make it a Real Player file or ASF. first save the file normally (it gives you 2 choices, save normally, or make movie self contained, "normally" will already be selected so you dont need to change anything) now after saving if you wan't to make it Real Player or ASF go up to file and click on EXPORT... and on the 3rd drop box down you have to select AVI (it must say ".avi" next to the file name )..now just click save and it will compress (it could take a while, but they usually do)
-Making changes to the AVI settings for the best results and lowest posible size-
Video: Click on options, under video settings set it to best quality, it should already be on Cinepak and millions of colors, if its not just set it that way. Now click on limit data rate to, and set it to anywhere between 40 and 60 (90 should be the default setting).
Audio: Click on sound settings, compression should be at none leave it that way, kHz should be around 22.2 or something, set it to 44.100 by clicking the downword arrow next to kHz (48.000 setting doesn't work with real producer) and set it to 8 bit mono or else the file is going to be huge. After compression the avarage size should be around 10mb for every minute of video. Don't worry, its about to become ALOT smaller.
-ASF Compressing-
After opening the program windows media on demand, look to the top left for a red button, click on it and select encode new file. Click browse and select the avi of your music video then click next, click on custome and make a "music video" template, click next and select Custome bps and type in "180 k" or a number close to that, then click next, for Audio set the codec to "Windows media audio V2" and for the format set it to either "32kps 22khz stereo (for audio/video" or "32kps, 32khz mono (for audio/video)" then click finish, a few more simple steps and your ready to compress the video.
-Real player compressing-
Now that you have your video compressed into AVI, open up real producer, record from file will be selected, if its not then select it, click ok, then click browse and select the AVI file you just compressed, click next, set the next page to Sharpest image video, click next, select single rate, click next, now for this setting I find that Corporate LAN setting is the best, it makes the file equal in size to the time length of the video (if video is 4 minutes, size will be about 4mb) click next, select music, now set the name of the file you want to save as, click next, it will give you a review of the settings you selected, click finish, and then click PLAY on the bottom left of real producer, and it will start the compression.
You can make it Mpeg, Mpeg are usually about 2 Mb per minute. I have only found one program that can do this, but then I have never really looked. It is Adobe Xing Mpeg Compressor, or something like that. One Drawback. Costs $1000, so unless you work for Adobe, Or really want to have a Mpeg clip & have loads of money, don't do this.
